RAILROAD AGREES TO ADD ONE MORE COACH

Railroad management has just informed Trains Unlimited, Tours that they will add one more coach to all of our charter trains during our 5 day event in June 2007. Within a few days after bookings were opened up in April 2006 this tour sold out to everyone's surprise. Since then a long wait list has been kept. In July it was proposed to the railroad to run a 2nd railfan spectacular to start on June 18 after the 1st event was completed to allow for more railfans to take part.

After several meetings with railroad mangement it was decided today (August 3, 2006) that a 2nd railfan event could not be operated because of several large crusie ships arriving in Skagway during those dates and a number of cruise ship charter trains would be operated making any railfan trains impossible. With the addition of one more coach to our trains we can now accept 20 more bookings.

JUNE 13 WEDNESDAY: Independent arrivals in Skagway, Alaska and hotel check-in. Welcome Dinner starts at 7:00pm followed by an introduction to your escorts and railroad management plus an origination of our railfan event including a question and answer session. Then an interesting slide presentation on the history of the White Pass & Yukon Railroad will be given.

JUNE 14 THURSDAY: We will have five coaches just for our group attached to the rear of the morning Fraser Turn out of Skagway, Alaska. As we climb the mountain this will give everyone a chance to get a feel for the railroad and enjoy hot coffee and a continental breakfast. At White Pass Summit a special stop will be made to allow our group to unload right on the border and the Fraser Turn will continue on to Fraser, British Columbia. This will give our group about two hours to photograph the morning fleet of trains coming up the hill from Skagway and entering Canada. Our tour members will be able to catch several trains at different locations right on the US/Canadian border and along remote Summit Lake. Within a mile either direction the photo opportunities and different locations are endless. Over the years we have had many railfans request for extra time at White Pass Summit to catch the many trains. Mid-day the Fraser Turn will stop to pick up our group for the return trip down the mountain back to Skagway. This will give tour members a chance to have lunch on the return run. Upon arrival back in Skagway our group will be able to photograph the switching in yard before we again board the train for the afternoon run of the Fraser Turn back up the mountain onboard our five reserved coaches. This time we will be allowed to detrain at rugged Dead Horse Gulch right at the tunnel and next to the famous Dead Horse Gulch Bridge. This will give our group the opportunity to photograph the afternoon cruise ship trains in and around this very remote and rugged location for some two hours. The returning Fraser Turn will stop at the tunnel to pick up our group for the ride back to Skagway.

THE NEW LOCOMOTIVE
WHITE PASS NO. 69 BACK IN STEAM

Scenic Railway of the World, Gateway to the Yukon, is the slogan the White Pass & Yukon Railway has used since 1898. There is no other railroad quite like the White Pass , running through some of the North's most ruggedly beautiful terrain on 3.9% grades. After completion in 1900 it was considered the engineering marvel of its time. The line is carved along sheer rock cliffs, runs over skyhigh wooden trestles, and through rock cut tunnels. Indeed, the rugged Alaska and British Columbia terrain and scenery is awesome. Words and photos cannot describe the excitement of riding and photographing this railroad. You must experience it to believe it. We are pleased to be sponsoring our 7th railfan event on this railroad.
