Fall colors in New England, there is nothing like it anyplace else in the United States. We invite you to join us for a spectacular week of sightseeing and train riding in Massachusetts, Vermont , and up state New York with a special option to join up with our popular "New England Fall Colors Rail Spectacular" tour on October 14 for another week of sightseeing and train riding in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts.



SATURDAY OCTOBER 4: Independent arrivals in Boston and hotel check-in at the Ramada Inn Boston. The Ramada Inn Boston offers free hotel shuttle service from Logan International Airport and Amtrak. Amtrak offers good rail service to Boston from points all across the United States and Canada. You can explore the city using the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) system with hundreds of miles of trackage in the Boston area.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 5: (CB) In the morning we offer a Boston City tour visiting many of the historic points of interest on the famous Freedom Trail in downtown Boston. It all began in Boston when Puritans established the town in 1630. The colonists had a notion of liberty and wanted to be free from British rule. In 1770 the Boston Massacre set off a firestorm for independence which lead to the Revolution which changed the world and in turn lead to democracy . On July 18, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was read from the Old State House balcony in Boston. Our city tour will try to relive some of these events. Overnight again in Boston. We will visit such historic points of interest as:

The Boston Common..............America's oldest public park.
The State House................Built in 1798 and acclaimed as one of the most
magnificent buildings in  the country.
Park Street Church.............Founded in 1809.
Granary Burying Ground.........Final resting place of many patriots such
as Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock.
King's Chapel..................Completed in 1754, considered  to be the finest
example of Georgina architecture in North America.
Benjamin Franklin's Statue.....Site of the first public school.
Site of the Boston Massacr.....Where it all started.
Faneuil Hall......Considered the "Cradle of Liberty".
Paul Revere House..............Built around 1680.
Old North Church...............April 18, 1775 two lanterns were displayed
and Paul Revere made his "midnight ride" .
U.S.S. Constitution............The oldest commissioned warship in the world.
Bunker Hill Monument...........June 17, 1775…The Battle of Bunker Hill.









MONDAY OCTOBER 6: (B) Morning hours to relax or explore downtown Boston at your own leisure. We depart on Amtrak No. 449, the connection (Lake Shore Limited) at 12:01pm for the ride westbound through the rollings hills of central Massachusetts to Springfield arriving at 2:15pm. Here we change trains to Amtrak's northobund "Vermonter" departing at 3:15pm for the journey north to Burlington, Vermont arriving at 8:44pm. Transfer to the brand new Courtyard Burlington Harbor by Marriott Hotel located in downtown. Within walking distance of all downtown attractions and the wharf.





While in Burlington, Vermont we will stay at the
New Courtyard Burlington Harbor Hotel by Marriott.


TUESDAY OCTOBER 7: (L) Our charter passenger train departs from Burlington, Vermont on the shores of Lake Champlain at 8am for the southbound journey to Rutland. Today we will be running on the Vermont Railway. As we travel towards Rutland we will make several stops in small Vermont villages to give you the opportunity to explore the New England way of life. As we make our way south we will be passing through such classic New England towns and villages as: Charlotte, Vergennes, Middlebury, Salisbury, Brandan and Proctor. Upon arrival in Rutland we will transfer you to the nearby Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn for hotel check-in. You will have the same hotel and room for the next 3 nights.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 8: (CB-L) You will have the morning hours to explore colorful Rutland before we reboard our charter train and continue our fall colors rail journey. We are scheduled to depart Rutland around 10:00am . From Rutland we will switch off onto the Green Mountain Railroad and head southeast towards the Green Mountains of Vermont. Again, we will be making stops at interesting and historic old New England towns and villages for you to explore. Today we will be running through such towns as: East Clarendon, Cuttingsville, East Wallingford and Mt. Holly before arrival in Ludlow. Ludlow is in the heart of Green Mountain country and is one of the most popular year round resorts in Vermont. After paying a visit to this village we will board buses for the transfer back to your hotel in Rutland. By hiway the transfer will only take about 35 minutes.





THURSDAY OCTOBER 9: (CB-L) In the morning we transfer back to Ludlow to reboard our charter train and continue in a southeast direction across Vermont and through the spectacular Green Mountains in full blazing fall colors. We will run through such Vermont towns and villages as: Proctorvilles, Cavednish, Gassetts, Chester Depot, Bartonsville (Bartsonsville Covered Bridge), Brockway Mills before arriving in Bellow Falls. You will have time to explore Bellows Falls whilte are train is being turned around and served. The downtown area is just one block from the depot. We then reboard and head back across Vermont in a northwest direction to Rutland.




Today we run our train eastbound up into the Green Mountains to Ludlow and return to Rutland.


FRIDAY OCTOBER 10: (CB-L) On our last day we plan to depart Rutland around 9am and start the journey north back to Burlington with a planned arrival of 6:00pm. Transfer to the Deluxe all-new Courtyard by Marriott Hotel which is located in downtown Burlington.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 11: (L) Morning hours to explore the colorful Burlington waterfront and market area. The Courtyard by Marriott Hotel is within walking distance to all of the downtown attractions.








Morning hours to enjoy historic and colorful Burlington, Vermont


Mid-moring we depart from Burlington travel north over to Grand Isle and then catch the Lake Champlain Ferry and cross over to Plattsburg, New York. This is a scenic ferry ride between Vermont and New York. Once in New York we stop at the Ausable Chasm where you can explore this deep rugged river canyon. The amazing chasm will take your breath away. Enjoy walking along the towerning cliffs in the midst of a priveval forest and peers into the chasm from many scenic overlooks and vistas. Descend 150 feet into the depths of the chasm to walk along the inner Sanctum trail. We then reboard our charter motorcoach and head west into the heart of the Adirondack Mountains making a number of stops to take photos of the spectacular fall colors before arrival in Lake Placid.













We will catch the Adirondack Scenic Railroad's Lake Placid excursion train to Saranac Lake and return. We then travel by highway south through Adirondack Park to Thendara where we will board the afternoon departure of the southbound Utica train. This excursion is on the southern end of the Adirndack Scenic Railroad and will take us 42 miles through the wilderness to Utica. Upon arrival in Utica we check-in to the historic Hotel Utica which is listed as one of the Historic Hotels of America . The Hotel Utica was opened on March 11, 1912, just five weeks prior to the fateful maiden voyage of the Titanic. This was a time with Judy Garland sang for the guests from the mezzaine and Eleanor Roosevelt visits the hotel kitchen to compliment the chef. Other famous guests that stayed here are: President Roosevelt, Hopalong Cassidy, Mae West and Bobby Darin to mention just a few. We know you will enjoy this hotel. We wll spend two nights here. The Adirondack and Amtrak train station is only a few blocks away.

SUNDAY OCTOBER 12: (CB-L) In the morning we board our charter motorcoach and head west to Shortsville where we will board a special Fall Colors excursion train running on the Finger Lakes Railway. This excursion is being sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Railroad Historical Society and will run out of Shortsville with a stop at the Lehigh Valley Railroad Museum and a first ever trip on the Ontario Central Railroad through an interchange switch off of the mainline of the Fingler Lakes Railway. This will put this excursion onto original Lehigh Valley Railroad trackage. We will also have time to stop at the Finger Lakes Railway workshops for a visit. Late afternoon we return to the Uticia Hotel for a 2nd night.

MONDAY OCTOBER 13: (CB-L) Today we depart from the Uticia Hotel and head in a southeast direction by highway towards the Catskill Mountains. At Phoenicia we will visit the Empire State Railroad Museum then board a Fall Foliage excursion train on the Catskill Mountain Railroad for a 12 mile roundtrip to Boiceville and return deep in the Catskill Mountains. Late afternoon we return to our hotel in Utica.



TUESDAY OCTOBER 14: (CB) We depart Utica onboard Amtrak No. 48 the eastbound Lake Shore Limited at 1:17 pm . At Albany, New York we transfer to connecting train No. 448 and continue east into Massachusetts arriving back in Boston at 9:45pm . End of the tour upon arrival in Boston. Note: For those folks that would like to join up with our "New England Fall Colors Rail Adventure" tour you will you will detrain at Albany, New York and transfer to train 291 the "Ethan Allen Express" running northbound to Rutland, Vermont. Arrival time is at 9:01pm. We will then transfer you by highway to Springfield, Vermont to join up with the other tour group at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel.
